People sometimes ask why I chose behindinfinity as a username. They’re lyrics from a beautiful song that meant a lot to me — Every New Day by the ska band Five Iron Frenzy. If you watch the video, Reese Roper sings “behind infinity” at 1:40. Something about that phrase really stuck with me.

When I was small, the furthest I could reach,
Was not so high,
Then I thought the world was so much smaller,
Feeling that I could fly.
Through distant deeps and skies,
Behind infinity
Below the face of Heaven,
He stoops to create me.

While I am not strictly religious, I do believe in a higher power of sorts. And I admire Five Iron Frenzy for their faith and the way they inspire people with their meaningful lyrics. Their songs weren’t all only about Christianity. They have some silly songs (Oh, Canada is one of my favorites), some slice-of-life songs (I always thought Ugly Day was really sweet) and some songs about other issues (like another of my favorites, Handbook for the Sellout). And their songs that actually were about their faith didn’t feel like YOU MUST PRAISE GOD JUST BECAUSE. It felt more like them talking about pieces of their lives and how their faith got them through it, in a way that even someone like me could appreciate.

This song (especially the buildup towards the end) still gives me goosebumps and tears in my eyes every time I listen to it. And of course, hope for every new day.
