While doing a heroic Chinese movie poster-style cosplay shoot with my friends, we wondered what would be like if Mulan were made into a bad Hollywood action flick, or a B-movie.
I can almost hear lines from the trailer. “I’M A RICE FARMER, MOTHERF-“

They see through my disguise! Here’s a shot of our Mulan group.
We have very cool baristas at our usual Starbucks for Megatrade cons. I was wondering why they didn’t ask for my name when I ordered, then I was pleasantly surprised when my drink arrived. I would have also liked though if they did ask, so I could pull out Mulan’s awkward line when Shang first asked her for her name. “I… have a name… And it’s a boy’s name too!” I did not know I was opening my eyes so wide at the time

And for Miguel who was dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow — they did not forget the “Captain” ;D

Bring Me That Horizon
My best mate Miguel as Captain Jack Sparrow! Photographed by Erving, art direction and post-processing by me. :) This shot was based on one of the photos from the Pirates of the Caribbean shoot by Annie Leibovitz.

To share a little story, one part of this costume — the piece of snake vertebrae — was a whole other adventure. Miguel and I chanced upon a store with accessories made of animal bones while we were in the island of Boracay. It led us to make the acquaintance of a fascinating character who calls himself Payat. He gave us a night’s worth of interesting tales. It comforted us when he said that the bones used in the store were not from animals that were hunted for that purpose. They’re remains dug from the ground by natives in a mountain region. Sharing stories and isaw (grilled chicken intestines on a skewer — they’re yummy) with him was one of the highlights of our trip.
