All Hail Cathulhu by *behindinfinity for the deviantART Cute Monsters shirt design challenge
Here is my contribution to dA’s current pool of adorable abominations. I took an embodiment of terror and combined it with the quintessential example of cuteness. All hail the terribly lovable… Cathulhu!

Miguel’s entry to the Threadless Loves Pin-ups design challenge!
I know Miguel is greatly interested in pin-up illustration so I told him immediately when I read about this challenge. Sure enough, he eagerly took it on and produced this gorgeous illustration and fantastic shirt design.
If you want to score his design to give it a better chance of getting printed, dive on over to his entry page on Threadless.

Regardless of whether it prints, I enjoyed working on the illustration for this.
This idea was inspired by the way soldiers in the past would post pin-ups onto their lockers or bring them along during combat as morale boosters.
I wanted to focus on the playful but wholesome side of pin-ups. I decided to design a pin-up girl for a modern guy — maybe depicting that special girl next door who shares his interest in stuff like Lord of the Rings, and whose laugh can turn bad days around. I drew an image he might keep in mind to get him through particularly rough days.
Thanks for looking!

One of my resolutions this year was to challenge and train myself better by creating artwork as often as possible. Part of it is joining as many contests as I could manage, because it really is great exercise trying to work with a predetermined theme and medium.
The Retro Future shirt design challenge caught my interest because it brought back memories of watching cartoons like The Jetsons and stuff on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim as a teeny kid. Those were my inspiration for this, along with the futuristic illustrations of Arthur Radebaugh.
If you happened to like this, I’d really appreciate if you could vote for it by clicking on the “I’d Wear This!” button over here. Thank you!
